Welcome

This is the 2007 Maternal and Child Health Bureau Federal/State Partnership Meeting’s online archive. The 2007 meeting was entitled Maternal and Child Health: Building Blocks 4 Promising Practice Models. This conference will introduce current leadership efforts to address the changing environment as well as activities designed to enhance maternal and child health programs by sharing promising practice and training models across the MCH populations. These models should partner with Federal, State, local or private organizations, including teaching universities that provide tools that can be shared. At the conclusion of the conference, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify models that eliminate barriers and health disparities and increase access to high quality health care
  2. Identify models that reduce illness, injury and death among children and youth. Promote comprehensive, community-based health care that combines public and private resources and promotes health environments where healthy behaviors can be developed.
  3. Identify models that promote comprehensive, community-based oral health care services that combine public and private delivery systems, maximize the effectiveness of Medicaid and SCHIP dental programs, and encourage the application of science to practice in reducing disease burden.
  4. Identify models that support development and implementation of comprehensive, culturally competent, coordinated systems of care for children who have or are at risk for chronic physical, developmental, behavioral or emotional conditions and who also require health and related services of a type or amount beyond that required by children generally
  5. Support newborn screening and increase professional and public knowledge of how genetic diseases affect health and showcase them as models of comprehensive care for serving populations of all ages with special health care needs.
  6. Models that support research and training that finds a better, more efficient ways to provide maternal and child health services especially preventive care and early intervention.
